The US economy continues to grow. Trademark applications have always been a leading indicator of economic trends. Here are the recent USPTO filing statistics through September 30, 2017, the end of FY2017, the government’s fiscal year:
- 3rd Quarter of 2017: 110,422 new applications filed
- First three quarters of 2017: 330,383 applications filed
- FY2017 (Oct. 1, 2016 through Sept. 30, 2017): 425,415 applications filed

Filings for FY2076 were therefore up more than 10 percent over the prior FY2016. This is a very significant increase, larger than last year’s 6% growth and a greater than any other increase in recent years.
