They are “suspended” or on hold, pending the resolution of an Opposition dispute filed by the owner of a registration for a PANCALDI & B Logo. The Notices of Opposition were filed in 1989. There is now apparently also an action in Italian civil court which has put the TTAB Oppositions into a suspended mode as well.
The trademark application process can take a very long time. But the rights in a trademark registration can potentially be renewed forever. Having a skilled advisor to navigate these complex waters is recommended.
I wonder if there are any older pending trademark applications or disputes at the USPTO?
