Of all of the tips that I’ve given over the years, there’s one that is far and away the most important tip when applying for trademark registration: the number one thing you can do to help your trademark application is work with an experienced attorney. It’s risky to apply for a trademark anytime. There are fees, costs, time involved. Working with a trademark attorney reduces those risks considerably, and therefore the R.O.T.I (return on trademark investment) is that much better when you’re working with experienced counsel. Yes, there are costs, but the costs are certainly worth it to make the application better, make it go through the process more smoothly, improve the odds of getting approval and registration, and improve the type and scope of protection that you’re going to be granted with that registration.
