The official ball of the FIFA World Cup 2014 is made by Adidas. It is call the Brazuca®. It features a unique name and a unique design.
Here is why I love the name:
- It is original
- It is made up
- It is unique
- It is registered with the USPTO (Reg. No. 4289185)
- It conjures up the word “Brazil” – site of the 2014 World Cup tournament
- It sounds like a Spanish term
In addition, the design on the ball (pictured below) is also unique and is the subject of two trademark applications at the USPTO.
Application Serial No. 86134081
Application Serial No. 86134080
Note that in 2010, adidas’ World Cup ball was called the Jabulani and it was controversial.
