Yesterday I reviewed the logos and trademarks of the four American League teams remaining with a chance to end the 2012 Major League Baseball season as World Series champions. Now it is on to the other league (which, by virtue of having won the All-Star Game will have home field advantage in the World Series).

Of the 4 National League teams, who has the best logo? The best trademarks? See my thoughts at the bottom. [Click trademarks or logos for USPTO records.]

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

  • The interlocking S and F of the Giants is a great design. And the Giants name is relatively unique. But the team lacks any colorful logo or mascot or branding beyond the SF.

CINCINNATI REDS

  • The Reds have some great simple designs. And the awesome nickname of the “Big Red Machine.” And the great mascot, Mr. Red, plus a newer additional mascot known as “Gapper.”

WASHINGTON NATIONALS

  • In a few short years, the Nationals – an original name – have come up with a nice package of logos and names, including the ‘Curly W.’ This season, they began using the slogan “Nattitude.”

ST. LOUIS CARDINALS

  • The Cardinals are another classic team with logos that have barely changed over the decades. The name is fairly unique. The bird logo is quite pleasant.

All four teams present great logos and names. The choice for a favorite is quite difficult. Despite the classic designs of the Cardinals, Giants, and Reds, I’m going with the Nationals. Their designs look fresh and classic. And they are well protected with dozens of trademark registrations. Their new slogan… NATTITUDE… is creative.

What do you think? Do you disagree? Let me know in the comments.
