Beware of trademark scam from IPTR – International Patent and Trademark Register

Yet another new – or old? – scam targeting trademark owners in the U.S. This one is from IPTR, or “International Patent and Trademark Register.”

The offer is worthless. For just $2,356 they will register your trademark their database. I have never heard of their database, their database is not complete, and I have never once heard a trademark professional refer to their database as a resource. The address is in the Czech Republic. It appears that just two years ago, the scam went by “IPTI” and has now morphed into IPTR.

This private database or ‘international registry’ has not legal or practical value, it has no affiliation with any government agency. The cost of $2356 is outrageous – because the value is worth $0.

Will the USPTO, TPAC, the Department of Justice, the Small Business Administration, the Federal Trademark Commission, the Department of Commerce, or the U.S. Postal Service ever get serious about stopping these scam solicitations and prosecuting the offenders?
